What is Blockchain?

What is Blockchain? Blockchain, sometimes referred to as Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT), makes the history of any digital asset unalterable and transparent through the use of decentralization and cryptographic hashing.   A simple analogy for understanding blockchain technology is a Google Doc. When we create a document and share it with a group of people, the document is distributed instead of copied or transferred. This creates a decentralized distribution chain that gives everyone access to the document at the same time. No one is locked out awaiting changes from another party, while all modifications to the doc are being recorded in real-time, making changes completely transparent. Of course, blockchain is more complicated than a Google Doc, but the analogy is apt because it illustrates three critical ideas of the technology: BLOCKCHAIN EXPLAINED: A QUICK OVERVIEW A blockchain is a database that stores encrypted blocks of data then chains them together to form a chronological

What Is Bitcoin?

Understanding Bitcoin The bitcoin system is a collection of computers (also referred to as "nodes" or "miners") that all run bitcoin's code and store its  blockchain . Metaphorically, a blockchain can be thought of as a collection of blocks. In each block is a collection of transactions. Because all the computers running the blockchain has the same list of blocks and transactions, and can transparently see these new blocks being filled with new bitcoin transactions, no one can cheat the system. Anyone—whether they run a bitcoin "node" or not—can see these transactions occurring in real-time. To achieve a nefarious act, a bad actor would need to operate 51% of the computing power that makes up bitcoin. Bitcoin has around 10,000 nodes, as of June 2021, and this number is growing, making such an attack quite unlikely. 2 But if an attack was to happen, the bitcoin miners—the people who take part in the bitcoin network with their computer—would likely for
